KEVIN NWOGU

Kevin Nwogu is currently a senior at the University of Georgia majoring in Management with a minor in Leadership in Student Affairs. During his time at Stephenson, Kevin participated in many organizations such as DECA, ran cross country, and even started his own photography & videography business with three other classmates - SMK Visuals. No matter what he did, Kevin noted always being met by support from his peers at Stephenson along with the amazing peers, faculty/staff, and administration.

“I believe this whole-hearted support had a great impact on me, motivating me to work harder and constantly challenge myself to go further”, said Nwogu.

School isn't his only source of motivation, however. Nwogu's parents came to the U.S. in the 1990s from Nigeria and he credits them for the opportunities he has been able to experience.

"My parents have made countless sacrifices for my sister and I, and for that, I'm forever grateful", said Nwogu. "They motivate me and inspire me to persevere despite the challenges that sometimes come ahead."

His faith has played an integral role in his journey as well. "With Christianity being such a huge part of the Nigerian culture, my faith has developed over the years and has been a firm foundation for me. Though sometimes my future can seem uncertain to me, there's certainty in the plans God has for me."

POURING BACK.

“I have a strong belief that it is necessary to pour back into places or people that have poured into you", said Nwogu.

Throughout his time at the University of Georgia thus far, Kevin has developed a deep passion for mentorship and philanthropy. He has found joy in helping students at the university find their way and sense of belonging, even serving as an Orientation Leader for incoming students.

His desire to empower others to fulfill their goals and dreams helped sparked his decision to create the Servant Leader Scholarship at Stephenson. Servant leadership is the leadership style Nwogu most closely identifies with. This style of leadership prioritizes serving others and focuses on enriching the lives of other individuals.

"I have also noticed the difficulties many students — including myself — face when finding funds to put towards their college tuition. I believe college plays a pivotal role in the development and growth of young students. While the Servant Leader Scholarship will not cover a student’s entire tuition, I have learned that anything helps when trying to pay for college."

Nwogu's hope is that this scholarship will inspire students to continue their journey towards higher education as well as remind them to pour back into the communities that have helped them get to where they are now.
